1  Retro Game Systems / Retro Fantasy: TSR Dungeons & Dragons / Re: BD&D Character Reference on: June 27, 2008, 12:05:08 pm
I added a new one - monsters... cant believe I didnt think of them as well.  Will upload it soon.  I like to protect my BD&D booklets from over use, so these charts do come in handy.

Hey guys,

Been working on this.. it's a compilation of tables per class, making a DM's job alot easier.  Its not finished (only has Cleric/Magic User/Fighter/Thief tables), but it may come in handy to someone.  It can be found at:

3  Retro Game Systems / Retro Fantasy: TSR Dungeons & Dragons / Miniatures on: June 21, 2008, 04:25:13 am
Hey again,

Was wondering what is a good source for low cost miniatures?  Im a BD&D gamer, and so the focus isnt going to be heavily on them, but there are times I think they can come in handy. I have a collection of the little green army men that might work in a pinch, but seeing Dalonforge The Dwarf pointing a bazooka at someone is kind of unsettling...

Wink

Thanks
4  Side Discussions / WOTC Fourth Edition D&D / Re: I've seen the Fourth Edition PHB and MM on: June 21, 2008, 04:18:20 am
Ive seen them as well.  And the thing is, its not that I dont *want* to like them, its just that Im having a hard time in liking them period. Im glad that someone came along and saved TSR from going out of business completely, but it appears that WOTC has been incrementally trying to change something that has stood the test of time. Why not instead, re-release the boxed sets? Reprints?  Is it completely necessary to completely scrap older systems and start anew?  They take great risk in alienating their base, in my opinion, when they repeatedly do things like this.  In a day and age where kids are more into MMORPGS than pen and paper games, this seems very risky.  We've all seen it with each new release.. more and more folks deciding to not convert up.

I think WOTC ought to stick with Magic:The Gathering (a game I am a fan of, actually), and open the license to D&D permanently.  ORICS, Labyrinths and Lords, etc are incredible works that keep the original systems alive and well.   Alas, WOTC is a company, and to make revenue, they must keep selling books.

Hey folks, new person here.. just wanted to say Im glad to see that BD&D is still alive and well somewhere out there.  I first got into D&D with OD&D, but the rules were confusing, and as soon as BD&D came out (box sets), I got them.  We played the heck out of those sets for a very long time, and it wasnt until 2E came out that we began to switch to AD&D. AD&D was, IMHO, too complicated as we enjoyed coming up with stories and spending more time on those things than on tournament rules play. Eventually, as with all things, we moved on and put our books behind us for quite some time.  When 3E came out, I was really excited to learn about it.  We tried reviving our gaming with 3E, but there again, the rules proved to be too much in the way of the fun of the stories. D20, to us, was simple, but no longer had the *feel* of Dungeons and Dragons.  I think it IS a good system, for things like Star Wars RPG and others, but it's just not D&D to us.  Wasnt long before we re-purchased the basic sets off Ebay and began playing the game the way it was.  Some of it is nostalgia of course, but in truth, BD&D has a feel to it, all its own.  I'll never sell my sets again (as with a number of 80s re-aquired items like my Commodore 128).  They are part of who I am now, more than just a game or toys.  Congrats, I think, to WOTC for 4E... I havent looked too much at it yet, and I still dont think it's for me, but whatever keeps the game alive for new generations of players, Im all for it.

Anyway, just an intro.. good to see you all here.
